Aquaculture Products

The little things can make all the difference. Here are some of the things you might not have realized you need, but won't be able to live without once you find a use for them.

Nudi-Be-Gone
Potassium permanganate concentrate - aqueous solution 125ml
Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidizer and has been widely used in the aquaculture industry for treatment of ectoparasites in freshwater fish, raising oxidation-reduction potential (orp) in marine and freshwater systems, and controlling the growth of nuisance hair algae.  It has also been used as an effective dip for diseased corals and is an effective method of controlling aeolid nudibranchs that prey on corals, killing both the nudibranchs as well as their egg masses.
Care must be used when using potassium permanganate, due to its ability to oxidize organic materials.  Excessive dosage will rapidly kill aquatic life.  Therapeutic doses for diseased marine life or removal of aeolid nudibranchs should be administered as a dip, never in a display system.

Sterile Pipettes Plastic 1ml
Infinitely useful besides their intended purpose of accurately measuring and delivering small amounts of fluids, these also fit standard airline tubing.  Sterile and plugged with cotton, this makes them an ideal rigid airline for critical cultures such as microalgae where sterility is critical.

Don't forget our aquacultured clean-up crew.
Included in the package:

12 miniature brittle stars from at least 2-3 species. These little critters are the heart of any good sandbed maintenance system. You will receive a small (1/2 inch long arms) white species that will quickly take to your sand and rockwork and scavenge every little nook and cranny with its slender arms. In addition, you will receive a species we have been developing for years and now have released for public sale. This is a larger species with arms that reach about 1 in length. This is a more active feeder and will cruise the reef collecting small particles of uneaten food. Besides the cleaning power of this ophiuroid, what makes it so special is the red bands along the arms that give it an especially attractive appearance.

10 Nassarius vibex snails. These are great sand cleaning machines. They burrow through the sand keeping it aerated and clean and will reproduce in many captive situations. These are NOT the Ilyanassa obsoleta species. While those may work in some situations, they are generally considered unsuitable for most marine tanks and are a poor substitute for the omnivorous Nassarius snails.

10 each spaghetti worms and small bristle worms. These are absolutely the best cleaners and scavengers around and are safe with all corals. We know that while most people love the bristle worms, they are not everybody’s cup of tea, so if you would prefer not to get bristle worms with your order, let us know when you order and we will substitute extras of other species for you.

Amphipods and Copepods – at least 10 amphipods and 50+ copepods in a clump of macro. Usually many more. Good little cleaners, and when there are enough in a tank, fish love to snack on them.

6+ algae eating snails. All aquacultured also. Usually a mix of Strombus, Ceriths and Trochus or a warm water species Tegula.
